Knives
We are happy to accept special orders for knives made with the combination of blade and handle materials that you desire. We generally limit special orders to the styles and types of knives you see in our on-line inventory. As long as the knife you order uses our standard materials and can be added to our inventory (should you elect not to keep it), no advance payment is necessary. Simply contact us and indicate in writing what you want, and we will give you a firm price quote; pricing on special order knives is equivalent to a comparable inventory knife. Upon receiving your approval, we will make the knife. When it is ready we will send you an invoice that includes shipping charges. When we receive your payment, we will ship you the knife on approval. If for any reason you do not like the knife, you may send it back (in unused condition) and will receive a full refund of the invoice amount. Special orders that are not paid for within 14 days of invoicing will be offered for sale in our general inventory.
You may select either a "Nordic" or "Conventional" style sheath in either right- or left-handed configuration at no additional charge with your special order for an outdoor knife.
Of course, you may also order kitchen and/or filet knives. If you find a kitchen knife that you like in our inventory, we can make additional knives for you with matching handles. The resulting set can be supplied with a custom wooden storage rack or block.
We generally do not accept special orders for knives of a highly unusual nature that are not of general interest, or are otherwise unsuitable for sale from our general inventory. However, all requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
When placing a special order, please keep in mind the following points:
The handles of our knives are made predominantly of natural materials that vary considerably in color, texture, grain, etc. Unlike man-made products, these materials cannot be obtained in standardized forms or unlimited quantities. Therefore, it is not possible to work to very precise specifications. We will be happy to accommodate general requests (bigger/smaller, lighter/darker, straight/curved, etc.), but kindly leave the details to Mother Nature and the Knifemaker.
Please be patient. All work on our knives is done by a single individual. We will produce your knife as quickly as possible, but delivery time is highly dependent on the current order volume.
You are the judge. If for any reason the knife we make for you is not what you had in mind, we will be glad to take it back.
Sheaths:
You can order an ADDITIONAL sheath (left-handed rather than right, "conventional" rather than "Nordic", etc.) for any outdoor knife in inventory. This is a practical option if you are convinced that you must have the very knife you see in inventory. Please note that it is actually less expensive (and often no more time consuming) to place a special order for a similar knife with the type of sheath you want, rather than ordering an additional sheath for a knife in inventory. An additional sheath is an addition, not an exchange. There is an extra charge (typically about 20%) and extra time required. You will receive both the original and additional sheaths.
For people who spend a lot of time on horseback, you can place a special order for an equestrian sheath. This sheath is similar to our Conventional Sheath. However, it holds the knife at a low (~30 degree) angle to the belt, and is generally worn toward the back of the saddle. For proper fit, the sheath must be made for a specified belt width. It can be made for left-handed or right-handed use.
