They are not substitutes for mass-produced commercial cutlery, where abuse-resistance and zero-maintenance are primary design considerations.

The kitchen knives are made in the same style as our traditional Scandinavian outdoor knives. The handles are constructed of natural materials such as wood, horn and antler. These materials have a beauty and feel that have made them desirable for knife handles since man started making knives. Like all of nature's products, these materials undergo changes as a function of time, temperature and humidity. While these changes can be minimized by proper care and maintenance, they cannot be eliminated entirely. Knives made with handles of natural materials cannot be expected to, and in fact will not withstand the careless treatment which is the design focus of most mass-produced kitchen cutlery.
